Peacebuilders in Somalia
PeaceBuilders in Somalia provides a new way for communities to take control of their learning and to support their teachers and their leaders as they transition to a new kind of learning supported by technology. Well-educated young Somali refugees from the Dadaab Camp in Kenya, in gender-balanced teams, are preparing to move to Somalia to work in remote villages.
Their mission, working with teachers and village leaders, is to help transform villages schools into CommunityLearning Centers (CLCs). CLCs will enable all ages, from preschoolers to seniors, to establish a lifelong habit of purposeful learning including the 21st Century knowledge and skills they need now and in their future. In partnership with Mogadishu University, young women and men who have previously been deprived a meaningful future, will be able to complete their elementary and secondary level education and engage in college-level learning. Preparation for careers—including education, health, agriculture and food, technology and business—will lead them to higher education pathways with possible avenues that lead beyond Somalia.
