Guide to Learning Innovations
The web-based Guide to Learning Innovations is being designed to be a resource for learning innovations throughout the world. We think of it as a hybrid of Consumers’ Reports, Wikipedia, and YouTube. It currently has three sections.:
Demonstrations is a place for uploading the descriptions and evidence of their effectiveness of a broad variety of learning innovations applicable to conditions that children experience, especially those who are marginalized from the rest of the world. The idea is to have a place where “things that are working” can be described, where contact with their leaders can be made and where plans and resources can be freely acquired and adapted.
Hardware is a place that describes a wide variety of hardware that might help learning in the developing world. This includes technical descriptions, prices, and contact information for computers, printers, projectors, power generators — whatever might be of interest and affordable to teachers and educational administrators.
Software is a place where open software can be downloaded without charge. This includes such basic tools as Open Office as well as other free and open software packages for classroom management and the like.
Wherever possible these three sections have links to each other so detailed information concerning the hardware and software being used in a demonstration can be found.
