Global OLE Network Meets in Nepal to Advance Universal Basic Education
KATHMANDU, NEPAL – The Open Learning Exchange (OLE), an emerging global network dedicated to educating the world’s children, is holding its first meeting of educational innovators from across the developing world in Kathmandu on November 2 through the 7.
OLE Nepal, a founding member of the network, is hosting the OLE Assembly and will demonstrate its Nepali-language digital library, interactive learning activities, teacher training, in-classroom laptops and other innovations now in use in selected schools in Nepal.
The global OLE Assembly will include representatives from Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, Ghana, Haiti, India, Mexico, Nepal, Rwanda, and elsewhere, as well as OLE International officials from the United States and Canada. Sessions will be devoted to professional development, exchanging successful national strategies, and introducing new open educational resources that OLE International and partners have been developing.
“We have been experiencing dynamic growth in our global network of open learning and social entrepreneurs,” said OLE International CEO Richard Rowe. “This seminal event will help us all learn from the impressive achievements of OLE Nepal and its counterparts around the world – to gain ground more quickly toward a Quality Universal Basic Education for the billion children worldwide who have been denied that basic right.”
OLE Nepal Executive Director Rabi Karmacharya added: “We have come so far in Nepal and yet have so far to go. Sharing our early successes with our counterparts from around the world – while learning from their experiences as well – will help catalyze this global network and build momentum here and abroad. This is why OLE Nepal is gratified to be hosting the OLE Assembly.”
